While electricity is very useful, it can also be very dangerous. Many deaths happen every year from those that are not cautious enough around their electrical devices, but sometimes, even when you take all the care that you should, something could still go wrong. If this happens, it is important that power is cut right away, or the worst could happen.
In your kitchen and bathroom, you use many appliances and devices that could turn lethal when they malfunction. This is why you should have GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) receptacles in these locations. In some homes, this is not the case, however. A GFCI receptacle shuts off power whenever it detects an unbalanced current, and this could save your life. If you live in an older home where there aren’t GFCI receptacles installed, you should have an electrician do so as soon as possible. It is a very worthwhile investment.
