When you have a tree in your front yard that is growing really well, do you get suspicious? If you’ve ever had to deal with roots in your sewage line, then you might be extra cautious when you see exceptional growth like that. This problem is more common than you would think. All you need is a small crack in the pipe or a joint that comes loose. Once that nutrient-rich water starts seeping out in the ground, nearby plants are going to get a boost, and they will want more of it. Just a small tendril of a root that makes it into the pipe will grow and then gradually widen that crack until your wastewater is gushing out of it, and the roots will just keep growing in there.
At this point, it is difficult to remedy the situation. There is a way to cut the roots from inside the pipe, but this is only going to be a temporary fix. Instead, you will need to dig the pipe out and do the necessary repairs to prevent future root intrusion.
